Hello! My name is Asia Martinez, and I am the passionate founder and lead educator behind Starlight Scholars. My journey into education is deeply rooted in a commitment to creating exceptional learning experiences for autistic children, helping them discover their unique strengths and achieve their fullest potential.

Experience

I bring valuable practical experience to Starlight Scholars, having served for three years as a teacher for autistic students at the preschool level. This experience provided me with a deep understanding of early childhood development, foundational learning skills, and the unique needs of autistic learners, which I now apply to elementary education.

Philosophy

My core philosophy is centered on creating a safe, loving space that fosters learning for autistic students. I believe that when children feel understood, respected, and genuinely cared for, their capacity for learning expands exponentially. Every session at Starlight Scholars is built on principles of neurodiversity affirmation, celebrating each child’s individual way of thinking and learning, rather than seeking to change who they are.

Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development with a minor in Psychology
Master’s Degree in Developmental Disabilities
Doctorate in Special Education, with a specific concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorders (in progress)

Baudhuin Preschool – ESE Teacher

My time at Baudhuin allowed me to gain clinical experience from a variety of disciplines, including speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists which allowed me to implement various strategies in the classroom according to individualized treatment plans.
